Everybody knows whats happening in these days in Japan. Japanese people are living a very tragic moment due to earthquake and tsunami. To crown it all they are facing also the problem of the explosion of nuclear plant in Fukushima.
I think that being against nuclear is something essential and really important for me, for all the people worldwide and for our future. Thanks to internet and to the collaboration between people I m sure we can do something important both to express our view on nuclear and to help Japanese people.
That's why I would like to do a compilation against nuclear.
I would like also to sell the compilation and donate all the money gained to help Japanese people. The money will be sent to Japanese Red Cross.

On the eve of their first ever vinyl release we thought it was about to time we inTERRORgated Brisbane speedcore duo Hallucinojenic & Cardiac Arrest! Matt Bleak was fortunate enough to speak to Jen aka Hallucinojenic recently about a number of topics including the upcoming vinyl compilation 'Give Speedcore A Chance' [ROMD001], here's what she had to say for herself!

NTR : First of all thanks for doing this interview, and sorry it's taken me so long to get around to doing this, haha! So...Who are Hallucinojenic & Cardiac Arrest? How long have you been producing music together, and who does what?

JEN : thanx Mr Bleak.. first I'd just like to say the reason why it's me hallucinoJENic answering the questions is coz Troy (Cardiac Arrest) takes too god damn long to figure out what he wants to say.. so yeah here it goes.. Umm well who are we? I don't think we even know the answer to that one.. but we started mixing vinyl together like over 7 years ago and I eventually nagged Troy into purchasing us a laptop and yeah we started attempting to make trax... We usually make all the sounds first before we start the actual track and then just take turns making sections.. you can tell my sections coz i go harder ;) and Troy likes his half time shit... :P (sorry Troy!).. then we just go through it at the end and edit it together.

NTR : Why speedcore? What is it about this sound that attracted you to it in the first place?

JEN : Troy was listening to speedcore before I met him, but for me the first time I heard speedcore (DOA - Ya Mutha & Nasenbluten - Cocksucker) I thought it was like novelty music like the Weird Al Yankovic of techno.. I liked it and listened to more and more and began to take it more seriously.. we both like it for it's fast crazy drum orientation (as we both used to play drums), random noises, metal guitars and just anything goes samples!

NTR : What's it like representing the speedcore in a city like Brisbane? Are there any other artists doing brutal stuff in Brisbane or is it just another city full of fakes, snakes and candy-raver / mainstream scum?

JEN : I dont think there is anyone that does exactly what we do.. it feels awesome representing the scene but also a little embarrassing that Brisbane doesn't have one! We would like to see some more people playing speedcore everywhere! There are people who mix a little of it but nobody that is passionate enough to stick with it or go fully as hard as what we do.. Brisbane is like every city in Australia, there are people in the scene to be seen and too many wankers just wanting to be the next big gabber dj, all with out true passion.

NTR : What inspires you to make your tracks? Are you trying to tell a story with each track or express some kind of emotion? Or is it just a bit of mindless noise?

JEN : We get inspired by our favorite producers and like to try and mash up different styles of speedcore together to make it fresh but raw.. at the same time we will sometimes just hear a sample and straight away start talking about it and have a whole song based around a sample going through our heads and we will automatically know what style kick we want etc etc.. but yes sometimes it is just mindless noise & emotion!

NTR : I notice you guys have been playing a few parties in Brisbane over the last year or so...how have audiences reacted to your sound? Have your sets resulted in hordes of candy-ravers fleeing venues in fear of their lives?

JEN : At the first party we ever played at 4 years ago, there was only one person dancing; she was going insane and as our set got faster and faster she was trying to keep up. We then played some ultra speedcore like a good 1000bpm and she ended up on the floor rolling around holding her head.. it looked like she was having a fit! It was awsome! But yeah we do tend to scare a lot of people off the dancefloor . it is nice to see at least a few heads jumping around like lunatics but I think that is usually just us behind the decks :P

NTR : So you have a vinyl appearance coming up on a new speedcore compilation on a new label, Records Of Mass Destruction - how did this eventuate? And more importantly, how can we get a hold of this piece of wax?!

JEN : I pretty much just came across Orrin Evans (Satanic DJ) online...I was trying to find someone to start a label with and Troy and I talked with him and it just seemed right and it has worked out really well! It's available overseas now from the online store Orrin set up HERE, and it will be available from Sound Base, Noisexchange, Hardstore etc really soon or people can just contact me or Orrin!

NTR : Do you have any more vinyl appearances in the works? any more net-releases? basically - what does the future hold for Hallucinojenic & Cardiac Arrest?

JEN : We have been a bit slack lately! It feels like we have way too many unfinished trax at the moment but we will be on some more realeases soon. We really wanna get ROMD002 up and organized as soon as we can afford to, which obviously we will be appearing on. I guess we are hoping people like the 1st one and like what we do and hopefullly it will just get bigger and better!

NTR : So what is the best way for people to get in contact with you / find out more about Hallucinojenic & Cardiac Arrest? Do you have any websites you wanna spam us with?

JEN : Ahhh shit people can simply find me (hallucinoJENic) on FACEBOOK (Troy tends not to do that sorta thing)...but yeah we're also on NTR , Brizcore, Extreme Sound Forum, and we post stuff up on SoundCloud every now and then...dj sets and the ocassional track or two!

NTR : And finally...any last words, shout-outs, abuse etc that you would like to hurl at the world?

JEN : Ahh yeah shout out to everyone who inspires us.. From Cunt Records to Bloody Fist to the newer speedcore like TNI and CSR... also to Mark N for supporting our exessive vinyl addiction over the years.! Mr Matt Bleak of course for being part of such a great label like NTR! LEE for being the 1st person in Brisbane to let us obliterate the dancefloor! New Year's Eve 2010/2011 in Melbourne, Australia saw two of the city's most dedicated underground techno crews joining forces to carry out a hugely successful illegal free party at an undisclosed inner-suburban location.

The venue itself was an abandoned multi-story car park that proved to be the perfect spot to host a renegade NYE smash...

Two sound systems were put into operation for the entire night; one powering the Tekno Mulisha crew and the infamous Artillery sound system powering the CRACK crew!

As soon as darkness descended on Melbourne, punters in the know began to pour in from all over the city and once they arrived at the venue they wasted no time in getting into the free party spirit!

A diverse range of musical styles including acid techno, breakcore, hardcore, doomcore, industrial, dubstep, drum n bass, schranz, gabber & hard tech kept the punters dancing well into the next morning making it one of the more memorable free parties of recent months in Melbourne. No complaints from nearby residents, no police in attendance, just a wicked night of anarchicstic electronic mayhem!!

“After many years of listening to hardcore, industrial and hard techno, I started mixing at small house parties and a few underground club events and illegal parties. After the devastating passing of my father, I needed to find an outlet to vent my frustration and anger – mixing records just wasn’t enough. At the start of 2008, I put all the frustration and anger into my productions and turned the anger to passion for hard, distorted electronic music. I like to draw my inspiration from the drive and atmosphere of hard techno and the harsh distorted kicks, percussion patterns and unique structure of industrial hardcore. Well it has been a long time in between drinks since the last NTR interview - that being the debacle that was the Alec Empire interview (which caused much controversy in the world of breakcore!) so I figured it was time to get back on track and recommence interviewing some of the many talented producers currently on the NTR roster rather than interviewing ridiculously irrelevant old rock stars! So without further ado, I bring you an exclusive interview with Surrealizt, a producer on the rise from Sydney, Australia; who NTR listeners should be familiar with by now via his solo EP 'Ballistics' and his split EP with Matt Bleak, 'Electronic Abuse'..ENJOY!!!

NTR : G'day mate, thanks for doing this interview! So for readers who may have been living in a cave with Osama Bin Laden for the past few years and have not yet heard of Surrealizt, can you give us a bit of an intro about yourself - who the fuck are you and what the fuck do you do with yourself? :P

SURREALIZT : Well my real name is Matt and I was actually Osama Bin Laden's cave(house)mate for a while there. I'm nearly 20 years old, unemployed at the moment and produce various genres of music.

NTR : I understand you are originally from Ingleburn in South West Sydney, the same neighborhood as Mothball Z - what is it about Ingleburn that has managed to give the world not one but two great producers? Is there something in the water there or what?

SURREALIZT : This is correct. I only just recently moved out of the 'Burn to a suburb called Georges Hall. Me and Mothball met in year 9 at school because we were on the same wave length when it came to music. Eventually we ended up discovering breakcore etc and downloaded FL Studio, which dawned the beginning of the Ingleburn Massif.
The music we have produced has nothing to do with Ingleburn, lol... if it did we'd being hanging out with Samoans playing acoustic guitars or trying to Gabber with the Esh cunts from the area.

NTR : So far you've had 2 releases on NTR - your EP 'Ballistics' and a split EP with Matt Bleak, 'Electronic Abuse'... have you released any tracks on any other labels? Also, do you produce under any other names?

SURREALIZT : I do have two tracks featured on a Dtrash compilation and another on a Splitterblast comp. Very soon I'll have some tracks featured on a Dancecorps alongside Annoying Ringtone, Drill Bra and GoreShit.
I've often thought about making a new alias for different genres of music and leave Surrealizt for my hardcore/speedcore stuff.

NTR : Have you had the opportunity to play many parties in Sydney? If so what have been your best memories of playing live so far? And how is the party situation in Sydney these days? Are they still being put on regularly?

SURREALIZT : I've only ever played 2 gigs in Sydney unfortunately. So not really any memories that stand out. Fingers crossed I get more as I release more.
There is regular parties on in Sydney, but it's mostly Dubstep/Dnb orientated in my opinion with a breakcore party here and there.

NTR : Tell us a bit about Bukkake Beat FM, the internet radio show you do with MBZ...where is the famous Gabber Bunker you broadcast the show from?

SURREALIZT : MBZ sent me a text one day asking me if I'd run a radio show with him. I said yes and we just started spontaneously. It's fun to play all the tracks that we love and have some cunts listen. Most times we sit there talking shit whilst eating pizza lol.
The Gabber Bunker is in a secret location ;)

NTR : I hear that you listen to a wide range of music, encompassing many genres...who are some of your favorite artists? Do you have a favorite genre of music? Please be honest - I promise not to deduct any kvlt points from you :P

SURREALIZT : I listen to way too many different genres lol. Umm at the moment i've been listening most to: Gorgoroth, Katatonia, DJ Donna Summer, Huoratron, Hostage and Gtronic. In between those I've been listening to everything else lol.

NTR : Any new Surrealizt releases in the pipe-line? What does the future hold for Surrealizt? I've been lucky enough to hear a preview track of some sort of grindcore / breakcore / metal project that you have been working on with some other Sydney artists..tell us a bit about that!

SURREALIZT : Currently preparing a new speedcore/hardcore release for NTR which I hope to have done asap =]. Hopefully my future is bright, according to a fortune cookie I ate today I'm going to 'live a happy and wealthy life'.... I'll uhh see how that goes hey haha.
In regards to the grindcore/breakcore/metal project, that was a track I produced with my mate on vocals under the influence of lots of red wine. Unfortunately we haven't done anything else with it and it may be the last thing we do. Although me and MBZ are thinking about starting an Electronic Black Metal project, soo keep your eyes peeled for that if we follow through.

NTR : What are your thoughts on Australian breakcore / hardcore electronica in the year 2010? Is the scene in healthy shape? Does anything need to change or is it fine how it is? Any tips on what producers / artists we should be keeping an eye out for?

SURREALIZT : Personally I think it isn't as healthy as it could be. Like someone who is starting to become a fat cunt (myself) lol. I think there could be more parties showcasing 'new' talent to the circuit. I think producers/artists should be looking out for all the releases coming out on NTR to be honest. So much fantastic shit is being pumped out of it!

NTR : What is AlfStewartcore? Do you think Alf Stewart has made an important contribution to Australian breakcore and breakcore in general? Do you think he would make a good prime minister of Australia?

SURREALIZT : AlfStewartcore could be the biggest and greatest thing Australia has ever seen! Fuck the X-Fagtor. Alf Stewart... Cunt's fucked... It's brilliant! I can only wish that one day in the near future he leads our country... although expect to see an increase in the small Cambodian boy population......

NTR : Well thanks for taking the time to do this interview Matt! Any final thoughts to leave us with, any shout-outs you'd like to give etc etc...?

Well It seems that the interview with Alec Empire only recently posted on here
has stirred up something of a controversy amongst the breakcore hardliners! Some of them are disputing Alec's claim to have been among the first to make breakcore and many are up in arms regarding Alec's comments about breakcore made on laptop computers!
NTR artist Noistruct has responded to Alec's interview answers with a scathing 2 part open-letter to Alec, and after much careful deliberation I have decided to print Noistruct's response in it's entirety on this here blog! In fairness to Alec, if he chooses to respond I will also post what he has to say, so Alec if you are reading this, feel free to reply, in fact please do - I am very interested to hear your response to Noistruct, as I am sure many other people are too! Anyways....

Are you talking about PCs as well? Are we talking about production or live shows? I notice you didn't specify that? Well. If you're talking about production..Please Alec go fuck yourself...

I have and will always use any form of electronic, digital or analogue equipment that was even within my reach to produce breakcore. The most essential thing for this type of music is that it has some sort of intensity and confrontational aspect...

Anyone who can't get that with a PC isn't fucking, well trying hard enough.

True there are many producers who lack this intensity and confrontational aspect, but that's not all of us - so please don't speak for all of us. It's not important how it's made. It's important how it fucking sounds. It's not important how it's produced or performed live - just that it's fucking intense, confronting and has a purpose other than just pandering to dancefloors and dance culture apathy. The only thing that's really important is the sound that comes out of those speakers. I can think of many breakcore producers who have only ever used a PC and have produced some fucking intense, confrontational and brutal breakcore. You've obviously not been exposed to a large enough percentage of those producers ( or the worldwide breakcore scene in general) to know that. Honest intentions are also important.
Something most of the breakcore artists who followed what you helped to start have more than you. Which was evident in what happened with DHR artists. You are the single worst example of a musical sellout to emerge in the 20th century. I don't see anyone who is currently inspired by digital hardcore/gabber or breakcore saying shit like....

I think that's the first time I've ever heard you use the word "breakcore" too. So it's funny hearing you speak for it...when you've been mostly avoiding it for the last 10 years and pretending instead to be Trent Reznor. I'm pretty shocked to hear you pissing on the concept of the use of PCs since it was within The Digital Hardcore
Movement that I first saw them being used so prominently as a live instrument. A video with the sight of EC80R screaming into mikes with a PC set up on the ground in front of them comes to mind.

It could be translated as "reproducing radical frequencies anywhere and anytime" means "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY" Fuck if that means plugging in a laptop and blasting out breakcore then fucking so be it! Fuck this "you have to have the rightequipment" shit!! I thought the idea was if you wanna make it...

When did this music get rules? get fucked. I thought Digital Hardcore had it's foundations in
punk rock? Breakcore can be produced by analogue equipment and analogue desks true. It can get a lot of intensity that way - especially live. But I was under the impression ever since I got into this music that it DIDN'T FUCKING MATTER how it was made. If you really believe that little quote of yours in that interview you're a fool.

I could record myself playing the drums into a program on nothing more than a laptop and still make it intense. PC's are in most homes these days and it was through the widespread use of PCs I found like minded producers that used nothing more than PCs to make some truly amazing digital hardcore/breakcore. When we started a label/collective inspired by DHR it was under our own motto of WE DON'T HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY because we liked the idea of a music movement that encouraged
the production of digitally produced computer music that was intense and confrontational. We liked the idea of setting up PCs in pubs and blasting out our own digital hardcore at crowds more accustomed either to bands or more dance oriented or arty electronic music.

Apart from mentioning the obvious Australian producers/labels who have used PCs as part of their production of intense and heavy hardcore/breakcore and since you're reunion milking this year (a biiiig trend in 2009) with ATR and revelling in nostalgia (I notice your website is mostly scrolling advertisements for clothing merchandise. I guess anti-fashion really is fashion too by now). let's go back to that amazing label and in particular producers like Patric Catani and Christoph De Babalon.
Christoph's debut album for example was very influential on me for a number of reasons. From the title which to me suited the idea of DHR (If You're Into It I'm Out Of It) and the back cover photo with a
work desk of some sort with a well-used PC displayed as what appears to be the prime source of equipment for that incredible album. The minimal equipmentused to achieve the sounds made was what I thought DHR was about. Bomb20, Patric Catani and Christoph made some amazing sounds and genre defining albums with mostly PCs. Not even thesort of advanced ones that many of the more popular and in some cases ridiculously overrated breakcore producers use to produce substandard Venetian Snares
wannabe dogshit and then brag about their allegiance to programs like Ableton on forums. Artists on DHR as well as Bloody Fist in Australia used in some cases only PCs to produce their music and with astounding results.

Sooooooooo...if it doesn't have a title like DO SOMETHING NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE (insert 509 exclaimation marks here) then it's not political? is that what you mean? I think this music can be quite powerful without having a blatant political context. Who decides if it's political or not Alec? you?

Fuck Off. Most breakcore producers do have political themes in their music. It may not have samples from punk records or be screamed through a microphone but it's there. It's in some cases subtle rather than obvious. It's subversive. Cynicism and sarcasm has become a popular method of expressing what producers want to say in breakcore and this becomes evident in recurring themes in their tracks through their use of sampling and structure. This music has and always will have a lot of comparisons to punk rock. Remember "The personal is the political" was the motto of many great punk rock bands? I have followed breakcore for more than 10 years and I have discovered records by, met or played with many producers who have used the intensity, aggression and confrontation of breakcore's sound
and idealism to express those beliefs and say something real. From child abuse to relationships to conspiracies to police corruption to misogyny, to the hypocrisy and emptiness of dance
culture. Some like a straight-forward and direct approach, some prefer the subtle and subversive cynical approach (as I do).... Breakcore is the new punk rock...in more ways than one. Apart from the fact it's limited in appeal (fine by us), it's one of the LAST true underground music cultures left. It's abrasiveness ensures it's unmarketable, it's aggressive beats, non linear structures and use of distortion means it's unappealing to the dance crowds and is for the most part limited to pockets of communities of producers, promoters, DJs and punters worldwide which follow it because they FUCKING LOVE IT. Many of the people who produce it don't get any reward from it other than their love of playing it and producing it. Like any scene, it has it's issues and drawbacks and it's progressions and changes in direction are not always agreed upon and we already have enough to deal with, with those elements - let alone one of it's supposed originators sledging it when he hasn't been an active, interested or interesting part of it's scene in nearly 10 fucking years.

Exclusive NTR Mini-Interview With Alec Empire!

Recently Alec Empire found some time away from his hectic schedule to be interrogated by Matt Bleak / NTR about the early days of Digital Hardcore / Breakcore, his thoughts on the current Breakcore scene and also about recent projects of his! So, Without further ado...

NTR : Hey Alec, thanx heaps for taking the time to do this interview!
First of all, the early days of DHC (Digital Hardcore)..it seems like there were a lot of similar things going on in different parts of the world at the very same time. We had Bloody Fist in this country and there was DHC in Germany and stuff going on in other parts of the globe also. So who got in on it first? A lot of people can't seem to agree on where what we now know as breakcore originated...did you invent breakcore? Or was it just a global phenomenon that simultaneously started in various parts of the world?

AE: Breakcore was done first by us. Clearly...We made the decision in the winter 1991/92 to step away from Techno and speed up breakbeats up to 170 BPM. Another goal was to push the limits in terms of programming those rhythms. The crazier the better. For us it was a political thing because the 4 to the floor bass drum became a symbol for mainstream dance music and was absorbed by the neo nazi movement. They started using techno to make their ideas seem more modern and get kids interested in fascism. They even declared techno as the 'true German music' which of course is stupid but in this environment we had to distance ourselves. So we wanted to use breakbeats which were rooted in Afro-American funk music in the late 60ties and 70ties. Also they symbolized the civil rights music and radical political groups like the Black Panthers. We believed that music can carry a lot of hidden information and it has a political effect on people's minds, the way they think. The Berlin based sound system 'Bass Terror' did the first raves with this style of music. Empty warehouse spaces, run down houses in the former East of Berlin. Force Inc Records in Frankfurt pushed the sound. First Breakcore record came out in Spring 1992 "Alec Empire - SuEcide Pt.1", some people say that "Alec Empire - Yobot EP" was the first, it came out a few months earlier...in my opinion this EP demonstrates the step into that direction and it is somewhere in between hardcore breakbeat, Detroit techno and breakcore. Atari Teenage Riot played a lot of music in that direction live, but the first record was released much later, early 1993. But I got to say that Bloody Fist was putting out great stuff, and in my opinion it never mattered as much who was 'first', it is about moving into the future and making exciting music. People need to give Bloody Fist and all the others big respect because all of the different labels and producers were so important, especially because they built their own scenes in each country.

NTR: One of the things that originally attracted me to DHC and Atari Teenage Riot was the ideology behind the music. Do you still stand behind all of the things you said when you were in ATR or have your viewpoints changed since the demise of ATR and now you have branched out into different things?

AE: I still have the same opinion...we still live in the same system which is based on the wrong ideals in my view. So of course time moved on , but the problems just got bigger. I don't feel though that I have to repeat myself and write more songs about the same issues though. But when I find it important to add something, I do it.

NTR: What is going on with DHR the label nowadays? It seems to have gone quiet for a while. Any new releases on the horizon? Any new signings?

AE: The DHR scene died with Carl Crack in 2001. After that nothing was the same anymore. We focus on releasing back catalogue since then. We won't sign new bands.

NTR: What do you think about the current breakcore movement? Do you listen to much breakcore at all these days? Any current breakcore artists or acts that you find interesting?

AE: I feel very loyal to the scene but think that nothing really tops what we did back then. The original idea was to have this intense physical music...if one does breakcore with a laptop, it's not breakcore...it's somebody faking breakcore. Breakcore must be done with hardware samplers and ANALOGUE desks to achieve the harmonic distortion which is essential for this type of music. The most important part of this music which separates it from the rest is the political meaning. If it doesn't stand in this context, it's a waste of time. A problem that the scene has to solve is that real breakcore doesn't work via mp3 because the digital compression of mp3s suck out the energy of the music.

NTR: I understand that you did some soundtrack work for the German movie 'Chaostage'...for people who don't know what 'Chaostage' is all about could you fill them in?

AE: The story of the film is based in Hanover in the 90ties . It's a city in Germany where all punks from the country used to come together and rioted for no reason. Just to spread chaos and anarchy. The film is controversial because the lead character kills a cop and gets away with it. Many critics in Germany didn't like that. There is also a scene where a Neo Nazi is shown who earns money on the side with gay S&M sex, so that scene is very heavy...this fat hairy guy shits on the Neo Nazi, pisses in his face and so on...some people left the cinema when it was shown...I love it when films can still cause these kinds of reactions. There were also actual riots at the premiere because the cinema was sold out and about 200 punks couldn't get in anymore...police came and so on...it all added to the excitement...The film has many of my favorite German actors in it. It was a great project to work on...real fun because the director Tarek is awesome and pretty much gave me a lot of freedom because he wanted someone who could merge punk with electronic, atmospheric music...and that was me...

NTR: So what is new in Alec Empire land these days? New projects? Upcoming performances?

AE: We just finished a two months tour in Europe - it was great...stage invasions, huge moshpits and a lot of noise...Now we have a lot of recording to do...various projects, Nic Endo is mixing her new album, I am finishing the new Alec Empire album...we might release an unreleased Atari Teenage Riot song next year...and of course various other collaboration projects...I am doing something with Dillinger Escape Plan, remixed IAMX, the collaboration with CX Kidtronik will come out in the next months...I am writing songs/beats for The Big Pink right now...we are constantly working...it's exciting!

Was very pleased when this arrived yesterday
at NTR headquarters - the very first CD release
from the harsh noise and extratone label 1000+!!!
It is a split release between Geprogrammeerde
Celdood (GxCx) from The Netherlands and Pirtek
from places unknown. To be honest I was expecting
this to be some kind of brutal speedcore / extratone
release so I was a bit surprised when I chucked it in
the CD player and was instantly bombarded with an
insane assault of harsh, fucked up digital noise!! This
is definitely not an easy-listening CD that's for sure!!
8 tracks on offer here, with each artist going track for
track...if this was a battle then I would have to say that
the result was a draw, cos both these artists totally slay
all suckers in the absolute noisecore annihilation stakes!
I cannot really offer any comparisons to any other noise

In the first of a series of what are sure to be multiple award-winning interviews, we here at NTR are proud to bring you this EXCLUSIVE interview with the current bad boy of Aussie breakcore; the one and only Mothball Z, or, as his close friends and fellow gang members fondly know him as : MBZ!!

NTR : Ok give us the lowdown on how you got started making music, how did you become Mothball Z ?

MBZ : Wazzup dawg! In high school I started playing brutal death metal on guitar. But one day in 2007 me and my best friend (aka Surrealizt, who recently released on Night Terror) downloaded a copy of Fruity Loops. We were suddenly addicted and started making Tiesto ball sucking trance. Then soon after that I read about breakcore in Wikipedia and here I am! (unemployed, checking my Facebook)

NTR : What part of Sydney are you from? I know from my own travels to Sydney that there is a small but very dedicated breakcore crew there that do releases and put on shows - often free ones in warehouses etc...is this continuing and are you now a part of it?

MBZ : I’m from a shit suburb called Ingleburn, which is south-west of Sydney and it takes me about an hour to travel to parties in the city. Lots of good shit is still going on and I’ve quickly become a part of it, by playing at shows, providing yummy snacks, it’s all very PLUR at the moment.

NTR : I understand that as well as your free releases on NTR and other net-labels that you also have a track on a compilation CD? Tell us more about that and do you have any plans for future releases...vinyl perhaps?

MBZ : That compilation (titled Sydney Scum) was something I put together with the financial aid of Kevin Rudd earlier this year. I got some Sydney breakcore friends to submit a track and then started making about 150 copies in my bedroom (burned CD’s, printed and cut out the artwork, wrote a number on every motherfuckin CD!) Also every copy was given away for FREE!! WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT!?? HOW FUCKING GOOD AM I??

NTR : Seems you have been playing live quite a bit recently - you have played on the same line-up as Mark N and also a lot of the mainstays of Aussie breakcore already in your short time in breakcore...how do you find it playing in front of an audience? What have been your best shows so far?

MBZ : Being able to play alongside the artists that I used to listen to is totally rad. Best show so far would have to be the last one I did (‘Pigeon Soup’ put on by the notorious 2flies crew). It was in a warehouse in the city and the crowd went nuts, police came but went away, people set fire to the floor during my set and I ended up playing 2 more hours of powerviolence and crunk LOL! The best gigs are definitely the chilled ones where I get people to come up on stage and dance, wear a funny hat and throw shit at people etc..
Also I am more pleased with the way my sets are turning out which = having more fun while playing them.

NTR : Who do you think is the next producer to look out for in Australia breakcore wise, anybody being slept on?

MBZ : Junglist_Jon, if he’s still alive.

NTR : What artists, CDs, records etc have you been listening to a lot of lately?

MBZ : Ok I’ll keep this short! At the moment I listen to hip hop more than anything! KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, E-40, MC Lyte, L.L Cool J. Also loving hardcore/frenchcore such as The Sickest Squad, Hellfish, Dolphin, Lenny Dee, The Speed Freak, I:gor. Also going through a massive powerviolence phase.. and a Death In June/John Zorn/Cephalic Carnage/Sean Paul phase. Fuck it just come to my house and look through my hard drive..

NTR : Do you think ridiculous internet beef and pointless internet wars have become a tired breakcore cliche of late? Or do you think it is just part of the overall breakcore 'package'? Wanna see my breakcore 'package' ? hahaha!!

MBZ : Fuck all that motherfuckn shit yo. A message to all the player haterz out there: If you ain’t down with tha MBZ, then you ain’t a real muthfuckn G!

NTR : Do you think breakcore interviewing could be the next big thing with the neu-breakcore kids?

MBZ : I hope so, this is a great way to talk shit and make reference to inside jokes, plus it would keep us kids off those dangerous forums!

NTR : Do you get breakcore groupies at shows?

MBZ : I get much love from fat speedcore neanderthals
